For this week's experiment, watch the scientific method music video first. Then, watch my first video. Next, watch my second video. Finally, check out my graph. If you want to make a cool graph like I did, then go here: https://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/graphing/classic/
Please listen to the song, and then tell me what are the steps of the Scientific Method?
1. Start with the problem.
First pause point: Tell me YOUR hypothesis for which soda will have the biggest reaction. Try to you IF, THEN, and BECAUSE.
IF ___(Sprite is the fizziest)___THEN, ___(name of soda)_____Soda will have the biggest reaction, BECAUSE____(reason you think that)_________.
Describe the 3 variables in an experiment?
Independent-___(What you change)___
What were the 3 variables in Mr. Kirkham's experiment?
Independent-___(The different types of soda)________
Was Mr. Kirkham's original hypothesis confirmed or rejected? How do you know that?
Second pause point: What question do you think we should test next?
Scavenger Hunt: Why did Diet Coke have the greatest reaction? See if you can use the internet to find out! Please link me any articles that you used in your answer.
Internet Links? Post them here if you have them.
Third pause point:
How would YOU change Mr. Kirkham's experiment around to use the same materials but answer a different question?
Look at the graph on the website. How many MORE milliliters did Diet Coke displace than Mug Root Beer?
Finally, what question are you interested in testing on your own? Do you have any ideas about creating an experiment? What are they?
(Note:) It is NOT required to complete an experiment THIS week. However, if you would like to I can give you bonus credit. If you decide to conduct an experiment, please send me any videos, pictures, or graphs that you come up with! I'd love to see them.
If you have already completed this experiment, you will receive additional credit.
